Imbio, University of Minnesota School of Public Health, the Mayo Clinic, University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, University of Michigan, and the HealthPartners Institute

DESCRIPTION:

The IMBIO project is a randomized controlled trial investigating the impacts of various approaches to improving smoking cessation outcomes. Over 400 patients will be enrolled into the study following CT scans of their lungs for problems related to smoking. Each patient will be randomly assigned to one of four tracks: 1) Usual Care + quitline phone number, 2) Usual Care + Report, 3) Usual Care + Counseling, or 4) Usual Care + Report + Counseling. Additionally, follow up phone calls will be conducted with participants at three weeks, three months, and six months.

OMS is responsible for creating the enrollment survey which randomly assigns participants to one of the four tracks, developing the tool used to track counseling participants, conducting three follow-up phone surveys, managing and mailing incentives, distributing Cotinine kits to participants who report abstinence during the length of the study, and managing and storing the data files.

RESULTS:

The project began in August, 2018 and is currently in the recruitment phase.
