PROJECT EAT

CLIENT:

University of Minnesota School of Public Health, Division of Epidemiology and Community Health

DESCRIPTION:

For the past 20 years, Project Eat has followed numerous cohorts of children as they enter into young adulthood. The aim of Project EAT is to identify the environmental, personal, and behavioral determinants of nutritional intake, physical activity, and weight status among ethnically and socioeconomically diverse youth.

OMS began working on Project EAT in 2016, working with the cohort that entered the study as part of EAT 2010. OMS helped update an Access database for approximately 2,800 young adults and their parent/caregivers, as well as conducted participant tracking using a combination of tracking software and social media to provide updated contact information for young adults and parent/caregivers. We also provided questionnaire design and consultation on all survey materials, designed promotional videos for the project for use on websites and YouTube, implemented online, mail, and telephone surveys, consulted on data collection efforts at the Minnesota State Fair, and facilitated the translation of all survey materials into Hmong, Spanish, and Somali.

RESULTS:

The Response rate for the young adult survey thus far is 52% out of a total sample of over 2,800. The Response rate for the parent-caregiver survey thus far is 46% out of a total sample of over 3,300.
