Test History

DAT

SVIB

ITED

CogAT
In recognition that post-high school planning must begin before the junior or senior year and must include more than scholastic aptitude, the program was expanded in 1948 to include the Differential Aptitude Tests (DAT) and a battery of achievement tests for ninth-grade students. During the next few years the program added the Strong Vocational Interest Blank (SVIB) for 12th grade students, the Iowa Tests of Educational Development (ITED) for all high school grades, and the Lorge-Thorndike Intelligence Test for the 7th to 9th grades. The DAT, ITED, and the Lorge-Thorndike (now the Cognitive Abilities Test) are still part of MSTP.
ITBS

CAI

IDEAS
In the 1980s, the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) was added to extend the achievement testing to the 7th and 8th grades. Next the Stanford Achievement Test (TASK, SESAT, and SAT) series was added to give schools a choice of achievement testing approaches (now only available from the publisher). The Career Assessment Inventory (CAI) and IDEAS were added to provide additional career counseling tools for high school counselors. As the focus of school testing programs shifted from guidance to instructional and administrative uses MSTP extended its services to provide complete coverage of its achievement testing program to include all grades from kindergarten through grade 12.
SII

IAAT

CISS
In the 1990s, the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) replaced the SVIB, and to be responsive to requests for other specific instruments, the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT) for 7th and 8th graders was added at the same time as was the Campbell Interest Skills Survey (CISS) for 12th grade students.
